Don't think you need to worry about babesosis pissing actual blood. Generally with babesia they piss dark urine, dark orange to brown.

What Jack said has you pretty much covered. But if you have seen him licking obsessively, or gnawing on his genitals, this could also be a reason for the blood.

Also prostate problems can cause this, 80% of male dogs can have issues with their prostate over the age of 8.

    Good luck man,

Yup. I've seen babesia red, but usually dark yellow orange. My vet said prostate infection should be OK with baytril for 15 days.

With babesia, the dog isn't actually pissing blood, it's excess billirubin, which gives off that reddish-orange tint.

For pissing blood, I would be leaning more toward UTI or kidney problem, than prostate, for which TMZ is first-line and Baytril would be recommended as second-line.

Of course, if it's an injury or cancer, then none of this matters. But, for infection, most dogmen have cephalexin or TMZ onhand to be given immediately until they can get to a vet.

And, if it's a UTI, even with a vet the TMZ should be choice numero uno.

    Jack
