Great question and I've seen some of all but nothing in the "pure form" so to speak in years. When I first got around dogs a family member ran alot of that Tonka stuff and he had very consistent success and dogs. That stuff was stubborn in my opinion but it was rough it was game and it was coming. He never had any "freak" type dogs pop up but he got the same thing over and over again and it was never going to be a walk in the park.. I know the word is that Hellbend was a very great dog and just a beauty to have but word is that they weren't happy with his overall production or his % but they can't all be great producers but it's shocking to say the least because you would think he would of produced great. But I think he possible could of been one of those "Bridge" producers. (i made up the term bridge) which basically means, his direct offspring might not be the greatest of the greats but they can be the ones that are used to as Jack states "redirect" the genes to get those high ability hounds. I believe Tonka Bear got bred a little more than Hellbound and he produced pretty good, maybe not as great as his father but he was known as a game dog around my area and most of the blood from him that snuck up this way were considered to be game dogs with little punch and that's when they started crossing it to some Termite & then Eli blood to get punch. Always thought if they just went back to some of the Boomerang blood or the Bolio/Boomerang mix they would of been great. Or back to some of the Anderson dogs as he used some Carver/Eli blood with his Tonka stuff. Instead of outcrossing and outcrossing and outcrossing to the blood is almost extinct. Just rejuvenate some of the blood behind it as I know Anderson had done with Aubern, Gypsy & Rose.. I wish I could find some now days, I know they say some of its still around off the Z-dog..
