Re: Masculine females?
Our Roto bitch was like that, and also a semi-sketchy mother with her pups. I used to have to give her little pieces of Valium daily until I could get the pups weaned. Fortunately, her daughters did not take after her in that manner. Just like any good cowman, the bulldog man should be looking for females with not only good performance traits, but also excellent maternal traits. What good is the CH female who kills her own get? If they are not good mothers, as so many of the bulldoggy dyke type of females are, then you need to bred into them good maternal instincts. Bitches who won't whelp pups and raise them to the weaning stage are pretty darned worthless to the breeder. I have a friend whose yard I visited over the Christmas holiday season. He has had trouble with about 75% of the bitches on his yard raising pups, which severely limits his breeding choices and options. You simply cannot fix this trait into a family of dogs, or even a small yard of dogs and be very successful. Some of these dyke type females may be good mothers, but all of the ones I have seen over the years tend not to be.
