Funny you posted the Jackson Son dog and David Smith. I was picking up pups yesterday and when I am over there we always re-hash those days. I was just a kid back then but I remember the older fellows (in their 30's, when you are 13 or so anything over 30 is old) were real high on the Son dog. He was on a collision course with GRCH Spike. Those that had seen both would be betting on Son.
When WC was mowing grass he spun a push mower around as he got close to Son and Son stuck his foot into the turning blade. Cut off most of his foot. When he got the word DP called David Smith. To show what he thought of Son he said, it is 9AM and a 8 hour drive, will you be around 8 hours from right now? He dropped what he was doing and made the drive.
It was said he was one of those who would be in the 'one of the best to ever look thru a collar' dogs.
