Winning 8 might be a valid argument for DOY ... but what were the credentials of his opponent, other than whipping a relative of Titere?

Titere met the challenges of other CH's & GR CH's, I think it says a lot about the dog and the camp taking on a younger 2xw who defeated his relative. Jack you've said yourself it is risky for a GR CH to take on a 1xw or 2xw because generally they are younger and have less miles and also if the GR CH looses he/she becomes less valuable (to some) and by old SDJ rules goes back to CH status.

    Yes, absolutely.

I remain a huge Titere fan and I consider him the finest, most accomplished dog alive on Planet Earth

However, within the context of "this year," I do not think what he did qualifies him for winning DOY ... but, within the context of his entire career, Gr Ch Titere would have the be the DOG OF THE DECADE ... if not, arguably, once of the most accomplished dogs of all time.

But the standards for a DOY title can't look at "the whole career" ... we can only look at which dog had the most accomplished YEAR, this year

His winning 8 does qualify him though, as a Candidate, and his coming from way back cements his greatness forever.

Whether he only remains a Candidate, or is elevated once again to receive the designation, will depend on all the facts laid out over the next few months, compared to other Candidates.

I hope he remains retired. He has nothing left to prove.

    Jack
