There is a difference between having a conversation, that moves forward to productive ends ... based on what was actually said ... and a conversation that spirals down the shitter, and goes nowhere, because one is forced to debate/argue over some falsely-introduced bullshit that was never said
No one ever questioned Grip's worth as an animal, or claimed he was an "over-hyped" bum, or anything of the sort.
What was actually said (and what was almost unanimous) was that, when compared to Gr Ch Titere, Grip (fine as his accomplishment in 2014 was) did not do enough to get the DOY title. Not here anyway. Not compared to what Titere did. And not according to most.
You did introduce the concept of Grip "not being some bum," before, and you did it again here. No one said or implied this.
The SDJ sticking to some ancient system, and not being able to actually think on his own, is WHY he was in left field. I am not sure how beating an 8-year old Grand Champion is a "higher" accomplishment in any system than beating a peer, still competitive Gr Ch, that was also DOY in your own magazine the previous year. This shows an inability to think on one's own. (In fact, Nietzsche once said, "The will to a system is a lack of integrity."
That would be like giving a current Heavyweight title-holder the "Fighter of the Year" award for beating former heavyweight champ Larry Holmes (coming out of retirement), over another Heavyweight beating another current Heavyweight Champ, and unifying the title. It's a freaking joke to compare the two, really.
I don't know how old Titere is himself, but he won 7 (beating a fellow 6xW and DOY), so he can't be a spring chicken himself ... and he pushed 2 lb to do it, let's not forget that
DOY has never been about "blowing out the comp," it's been about the most accomplishments for that year ... and April, by beating TWO Champions ... and by being one of the rare few to go passed the 3-hour mark ... certainly did more than ANY other dog for the year of 2014, including Titere, it just was not quite as historically-significant.
But she certainly had the most productive year of any dog I know of, more so than Grip, more so than Capoeira, just not Titere.
