You are one hundred percent correct Jack. I have seen thuggish type dog men that get prideful and loud mouth when winning. The tide turns they get sulky and start standing away from the dogs, get real slow on the handling. Become a spectator instead of a dog handler. LOL I was taught by a seasoned dog man that when you get a clean handle. To bring the dog up close to you and one of your knees raised to keep the other dog from unfairly grabbing your dog in a compromised position. Then walk backwards till all is clear to safely turn around and proceed to corner.
If the handler is still jacking around, not getting his dog and it is trying to get your dog. You most certainly can stick your leg and foot out to block the dog. There are so many things another dog person can try to play on you during a dog pull. If all of it was written down in a rule book. Would take a big Red Flyer Wagon to pull it up to the show ring site. LOL
Something else I observed that a lot of thuggish type players like to do. Is get down by your dog's ear and scream and holler. Best way to remedy that if your Referee has no gumption about their self and fair play. Is to get right down near that sucker's head and scream and holler in his ear.
Way things are today would be wise to be in as good of shape as your dog. Spend some time taking some ground and pound Gracie Cage Fighting lessons. Was one of the main reasons K. Marlowe quit the game and sold off her remaining stock years back. Her son had a very bad incident and experience at one of Powell's last dog weight pulling shows. Loving her children foremost, told her son it was time to wrap it up. This was told to me personally by her son around two years ago. Cheers
