That is about the size of it TFX. To many young dog men waste money on puppies and have no proper yard set up to raise them. When they should be looking for a good game proven brood bitch even if a older dog. Finding a good stud dog is the least of the problem.
Being patient and getting in no hurry. The extra time can be used in building brood pens, dog houses, chain set ups etc. Reading CA Jack's book on how to take care of dogs etc. When the pups arrive off a good bitch and stud dog. All that will matter is how things look in two years and so begins their saga of raising their line of dogs. It really starts with that person. Sounds easy but will be hard work with ups and downs along the way.
I never got tired of holding and loving on a bunch of 4 to 12 week old seal skinned Pit Bull pups. I too like Mr. Fox hated to see any of my personnel bred dogs hurt. Some things can not be avoided. It is a Spartan life. Why the Pit Bull Terrier is still the greatest pound for pound dog that has ever lived. Hoo Raa. OOPs I meant Cheers. LOL
