Bently this little story will probably have nothing to do with your long eared bitch. Dog man by the last name of Williams was one of the dog men that ran with Mr. Burns/Mr. Bo Harris/ Watkins/Eric Winingham/Tant/Crews etc.
When Scotty McNeil quit the dog game he sold his Carver-Creel Chuck dog to Williams. When Williams decided to quit the dog game. I bought the McNeil's Chuck dog from him. I was the last owner of Carver-Creel- Ed Crenshaw bred Chuck dog.
Scotty Todd had found one of the last tight Lightner dogs that was in N.C. This bitche's name was Mousy. Mousy was a very nice looking little tan or brindle bitch with those long lappy ears. Not 100% sure of the dog's color anymore but was one or the other. Tar Heel Matt had some of the last of that blood and one or both of his dogs were real old. This little bitch Scotty Todd had may have been off some of the last breeding's off of Tar Heel Matt''s Lightner dogs.
Now here is the interesting part. Scotty bred Mousy to the Chuck dog and she had a litter of pups. The only one I saw later on was a really nice looking buckskin bitch with the long bat ears. Eric/Bo/Watkins and Burns were working her for a match. These older dog men like to nip on the bottle all during the day. They were out late in those swamps, road working this bitch. On the way in they stopped at a cross roads country store, went inside to get some refreshments. Meanwhile the bitch dog was not in a kennel but loosely chained in the back of the truck. The bitch had jumped off the truck and got under the back wheel. Not checking on the dog, they drove off, back over this bitch and killed her.
Later after I bought Chuck I went back down there to see if I could buy one of the other dogs off that breeding. Eric said his brother had the rest of those dogs and one being a good acting male. None were for sale.
None of those fellows would let me see those dogs and never knew what became of them. It was hush, hush, top secret for all of them. LOL I can not prove it one way or the other. But I find it hard to believe they did not bred some of that stock back into their dogs. Would have been crazy not to. LOL
P.S. Williams did not buy McNeil's Chuck just to look at him. He was bred a good bit down in that part of the country. For what ever reasons no breeding's off Chuck are shown in their dogs. Cheers
