I read calis article and it went word for word with how I have been feeling within the last year.
To me dogs that spend 75 percent of there lives on chains or in cages is wrong not only to the animal butt to yourself in the long run.
Grind, I deal with all of my dogs up close and personal. Whether they're chain dogs or the two in the house, they all get up close and personal attention. Your feelings are based on never having children I would say if you look at dogs like children. While there's nothing wrong with loving your dog, they are not children, but that's another subject entirely.

As for dogs spending their lives on chains? I'd think that's called safety more than anything else. There's nothing wrong with keeping the dogs you own safe from one another. Lets not get too outta whack with reality when it comes to keeping a few more dogs than the next person.
