Parvo is one bad virus to get on your yard. It always shows up in the South East around March. When the weather is just cool and start having light misty rains. The bugger that spreads the virus around in my area is those migrating yellow eyed black birds. Sure the Robins and others carried it as well.

These Black Birds fly all over peoples various yards and farms. Carry that virus on their feet and bodies. They love to drink out of your dogs water bowls and eat any left over food. Other animals/persons can spread it as well. You would see these birds in about any ones back yard. When I see them I figure the Vets are busy treating sick Parvo dogs and saving none. Back then I never knew my Vet to save any pups or young dogs from Parvo.

Never went through this but once on my yard and helped some others with their pups. I leaned to Vaccinate on that schedule like Jack said and did use those brands of Vaccines.

A try it yourself remedy that worked for me. Was first you had to catch the Parvo right from the start. Pups have not eat food. Start scrambling fast. Time is very important. The first 24 hours are very crucial.

I use to have all this stuff wrote down. Not sure of the names of the antibiotics are spellings anymore. If Tamiflu was available back then would have used it. Would be best to keep all the items Ca. Jack mentioned on hand and learn those techniques of how to use them. I had 12 years in the N.G. as a corpsman. So knew how to do give shots and IV's.

When it came to Parvo had no confidence in a Vet. back then. Most would only give IV Fluids and charge the hell out of you for a litter of dead pups.

So all this is going to sound crazy and all wrong and could very well be so. Maybe over kill. I used a antibiotic back then that was for Swine. Injected it under the skin. After cleaning the water pan. Would mix a strong amount of Colloidal Silver in the water.

Next would give a good liquid dose by mouth of a combo drug that had Sulfur and Opium. Was Called Paregoric or something like that. May be off the drug market by now. Mothers used it for sick colic babies that would just cry all night and get no rest.
This product would make the pups lay down and sleep deeply. Many less trips to the water bowl and bad bowl movements. With in 24 hours were up and going like nothing ever happened.

Once I got my Vacc. schedule down pat. Never had that problem any more. If I brought a dog or pup from some else's yard to keep. Would de flea and revaccinate on their yard before putting in my dog kennel. Once The dog or pup had settled in would deworm.

Near the end of my time with the dogs. Where I lived the Fire Ant became a big problem along with flea break outs. You would figure that fire Ants will eat anything. Seems they would have at least got rid of the fleas. All my brood pens had to be off the ground and metal legs in half barrels of water. Could leave no food laying around.

There are better control poisons for fire Ants today and fleas. Good luck and Vaccinate more than one time. Lot cheaper than a Vet Bill or having to redo a breeding which may include another stud fee. Say What!!!! LOL
