Chat with C. Middleton

Contacted C. Middleton through Face Book. We just had a great chat this morning. He helped me correct a breeding of his, one being the C. Middleton's Prince dog. Garner has the pedigree correct on Prince and his Garner's Dolly. Except the right ownership names of some of the other dogs in the Dolly pedigree. Which I had corrected on this site.

C. Middleton told a lot of dog history in too short of a time. I plan to talk with him some more at a later date. He could write a great book on his private times in the dogs from many years back. He no longer has any dogs and has not been active for a good many years. But like me has some great memories of our younger days in the dogs.

I had a good suspicion of who came on my dog yard and broke the back of my Carver/Creel dog Chuck. In the conversation he unknowing confirmed my thoughts about that matter. When he told of the persons that broke the back of his Buckey dog and cracked a back vertebrae on his Prince dog. No need to name names today. Would be a moot point as one of the persons is dead.

C. Middleton and self were going down the same track with the breeding's of these Bullyson x Art's Missy dogs. He had bred from his Middleton's Black Betty bitch and I was using the J. Young's Face bitch and the J. Young's Pearl bitch. Which both my bitches had the Loposay's Buster dog and Holt's Jeramiah stud dogs in their breeding make up. I also was adding some Iron Head/Eli and Ed Crenshaw cross back into the mix with my J. Young's Chuck dog along with the Zetterquest's Crazy Critter dog.

He told me he remembered all of the breeding's of his dogs right up till Garner started breeding off the Dolly bitch. All of that information is correct on this site verified personally by Him. Cheers

Spawned a memory with that post. We had a two card deal some years back. The average age was somewhat low but it was good dog people who were running up and down the road doing dogs.

After the second show and some after care we found ourselves in the building sitting around as we dismantled the box. The guy that turned me onto the dogs was at the front of the class. He reeled off story after story, dog after dog. CYJ can attest to the Sunday morning breakfast days behind the privacy fence at AB's. Then the Q&A started and it was like "Bulldog School" was in session. First show at 9, second was about 10 or so, box broke down by midnight and I left the class at four in the morning.

At times I miss those days of running up and down the road with the reckless abandon of a young boy who didn't know any better. EWO

Yeah, that reminds me of the 90s, when I would tote a pickup full of dogs over to central CA and do a bunch of dogs with about 50-60 people who would all meet at this one guy's house.

Had a few sessions like that in FL, and a few in TN, but was always more worried about the law later on than excited to see the next dog go.

There is something to be said about being young and fearless ... you may have done a lot of dumb things, but life was more fun being fearless than worried about "what if" :lol:

Ditto EWO and CA Jack. Back then Myself/Middleton and some other locals would all load up in V. Jackson's Van. Share the cost of gas and head out to N.C./Georgia/Florida or all the way out to Texas or Mississippi. On the weekends something was going on somewhere all the time.

Spent a lot of weekends up near G. Cummings/ Spruill and Jacobs way or down in the swamps of Charleston with Burns/Tant and Crews. Was plenty of action around my area also back then.

After a bad experience up at M. Hills and a night in the swamps of Elizabethtown N.C. I finally quit going to any multi shows. The big gatherings had finally drawn to much attention to Johnny Law and the general public. Plan to chat with Middleton again next week. Want a more complete story on his Boze dog. Something I will share later about that Boze dog. Even Middleton said what that dog would do at times was real spooky. Keep you all wondering till then. Cheers

Very true. Young a fearless is fun, often short lived (no pun intended), but never worried. Same thing here. We would cook a pig, or a few shoulders on the grill, eat, hang out and then do dog after dog. Times were much different and we were much different.

If we did that today my we-we would draw up to nothing. EWO

I remember going out to a nightclub with a buddy up in the high desert. We got pretty toasted, failed to bring any girls back, and so were fubarred and driving back down the long desert highway back to my place. Pulled out my .357 as we were driving, and stopped every so often to try and shoot jackrabbits that were zipping across the hwy on the way home (:lol:)

Well, we actually were able to hit 2 jackrabbits with that long-barreled revolver, and when we came back to my place, he was fixing to head home, but my dogs were barking so I said, "Hey, let's roll-out some dogs!"

So we rolled about 3 pair of dogs, at like 2 am, music blasting, us encouraging the dogs, with neighbors being within a quarter-mile :shocked:

Can't fucking imagine being that stupid now ... but this was in 1993, before the internet, and before these dogs were all over the media.

It is not like the 90's were as far back as the Civil War or the Great Depression but due to the internet, the media attention (negative) and how easy it is to get hung up, well, it seems like a hundred years ago.

For some of the older guys I can't imagine looking back to the 70's or even the 60's. That must feel like 10 lifetimes.

A number of years ago we had two dogs going in a three dog show. The home team had three dogs going and add one more camp at 5 max per side. 15 total with 2 refs and one friend. 18 tops was what we were told. Our five split between two rides. We met up and a guy got in the truck with us for directions. We turned down a dirt road (which is always nice) and then into a very well to do neighborhood (not so good). It was all family land so we were OK. Turned onto a long drive and made a turn into the huge back yard of this really nice house. I just about crapped in my pants. The first thing I saw was a guy with a parking attendant's lighted wand parking cars. People were tailgating like it was football game. A conservative guess would be close to a 100, maybe more.

We park and walk up the hill toward the house and there is a concession stand with a line selling cold beer and fish sandwiches. I was in the WTF? mode to say the least. There was a sign on the door that said, "No Automatic Weapons", 1. Like there are rules of engagement in that scenario and 2. Maybe with some equality there will be no gun play.

The guy that turned me onto the dogs received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the crowd. It was hairy for me but it was nice deal considering the time he had put into the game over a number of years. With that said, I could talk to him/spend time with him any day of the week and I was hoping for short matches, WIN OR LOSE, just to get out of there.

IN the end it turned out fine. I won with my male, and the other male lost as game as anyone could ever ask. I was so ready to leave I can't remember anything about the third deal.

Same thing today and the ol' ticker might give way. That was in the early 2000's and that seems like a lifetime ago. Times surely do change. EWO

Middleton had some free time today and called me back. He got me up to date on the story of the M. June's Boze dog. I went back to that Topic I had posted: June's Boze brother to Johnson's Rage. You can just enter the word Boze up in our search engine top right. Topic will come up. I have went back and reedited the topic and made the corrections. I also added the spooky/freaky thing that Middleton said Boze would do time to time. Cheers
