A.I. - freezing sperm - and DNA PROGRAMS

What registries offer DNA program. If you have a stud that is only A.I. able or dead but has frozen sperm ,should he be DNA tested. And A question to you Jack,With BIG JOHN being so big were you worried about Screamer when she had his babies.If you don't mind could you go into that breeding and litter process please. No, we did an AI with Screamer because Big John wouldn't breed naturally, and she had her pups just fine. It was a fresh semen breeding done right there on the spot when I brought Screamer over there.

As far as freezing semen goes, you have to get a DNA profile on a stud nowadays, just to freeze his semen at all, if you want the pups to get registered. There is no registration body I know of that will accept a frozen semen breeding without one, unless maybe it's very old.

Thanks for the feed back,was curious of how many pups screamer had and how many times did you guys A.I. her. My other question is do you think I should be concern about this breeding http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/pu ... _id=203135 with ili cherry being 35 lb and sonny being 60lb and coming from a big dog family

We bred twice, skipping one day inbetween, and I got 7 pups.

And, while it is impossible for me to predict with certainty as to what will or won't happen in any delivery, I do not think Little Red Cherry will have any problems.

What area are you in. I use a reproduction vet that all of the guys at my Schutzhund club use.

You can go to Synbiotics for a list of reproductive vets ... as well as Camelot Farms

Also, if you live near a veterinary college, they do them too.

And here is what is so utterly ridiculous about all of this DNA and registration nonsense. About a year ago when I was trying to move a straw of our Homer III semen, several interested parties wanted to breed to him, but they also wanted the pups to be able to be registered ADBA. I swabbed him when we collected the semen, but never sent it in. I still have it after all these years. I spoke with Adam at ADBA at that time and he explained that the sample I had would be too degraded now to develop a DNA profile, but also told me that since Homer III was registered all we had to do was send a small sample of the Homer III semen in upon thawing and that would suffice for a profile. I said "Gee, that semen sample in theory could be from any old dog, how do you know it would really be Homer III's semen?" Adam's reply to me was "ultimately the truth of every dog's breeding lies in the integrity of the breeder".

Therefore friends, of what value is ADBA registration anyhow if it all comes down to the breeder's honesty? Acquire stock from a breeder who does not hang papers, don't hang papers yourself, and all will be well. 8-) No need to get DNA samples, buy registration papers, or trust some other entity with sensitive information about you, your residence, and your dogs.

Agreed.

However, to give credit where it's due, the real justification for a registration body is in the dog shows and in providing unity against the fight against APBT laws.

But as far as the 'paperwork' goes, the paperwork is only as good as the word of the man who's signing it :idea:

I agree, participation in conformation shows would be the only tangible advantage of registration.
