It gives you a guideline on statistical probabability only, not actual genetic sameness. It is a good quick reference tool to see if an individual or a mating is starting to lock down traits and reduce genetic variables. The key then is selection. If you select poorly and inbreed on it that will have a greater probability of becoming the genetic norm or average.
If you really want to know if you are there, it would involve significant genetic testing such as in this article regarding my friend Jim Lents' cattle.
